'Senseless'

Shocking footage has emerged of a disqualified teen driver racing through a picturesque market town at three times the speed limit as he tries to give chasing police the slip.

'Senseless' Jordan McGrath-Coulstock, 19, was filmed driving a Ford Mondeo at 60mph along the 20mph restricted West Malling High Street in Kent during a high-speed pursuit.

The police dash-cam footage also shows the teenager driving down narrow country lanes at speed, forcing pedestrians to climb up a bank beside the road to avoid being hit.

So desperate is McGrath-Coulstock to evade police, he even continues to drive after police use stingers to blow out his tyres.

Now the teenager, of East Malling, Kent, has been sentenced to 54 weeks behind bars.

The video starts with the Ford powering through a traffic calming measure, with no regard for its priority rules.

It then jumps to the Ford speeding down a narrow country road, narrowly missing two pedestrians who had climbed up banks either side of the road.

After racing through a T-junction without stopping, McGrath-Coulstock the narrowly avoids two cyclists coming in the other direction.

The video later cuts to the Ford racing through West Malling High Street, with police still in pursuit.

McGrath-Coulstock is finally stopped after police used a stinger to pop the car's tyres, before using their vehicles to block him in.

He later admitted dangerous driving, three counts of driving while disqualified, and three counts of driving without insurance at Maidstone Crown Court.

The court heard how police spotted McGrath-Coulstock driving a Mercedes on March 8, despite the fact he had bee disqualified.

Because he was travelling in the opposite direction, they were unable to safely stop him and he got away.

But around 45 minutes later, while searching the area, the same two officers found a suspicious, beaten-up, uninsured Ford Mondeo.

McGrath-Coulstock, who was driving the vehicle, made a sudden U-turn to get away, before leading police on the high-speed chase.

When he was finally arrested, officers found the log book of the Mercedes he had been seen driving in his pocket.

Sergeant Ben Brennan, from Kent Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: 'McGrath-Coulstock has repeatedly shown himself to be incapable of abiding by the most basic practices of good driving and in doing so, he endangered many lives.

'Despite regular previous engagement with Kent Police, and for reasons only known to him, he persisted with his poor and reckless manner of driving.

'His imprisonment means a significant threat to public safety is now off the roads and I hope he uses in time in custody to reflect upon his senseless behaviour and consider changing his ways.'
