Neighbours of a 101-year-old man who has lived on their street for more than half a century banded together to wish him a happy birthday yesterday.

Harold Reed sat outside his front door on the seat of his walker to greet his neighbours on a street in Dover, Kent.

One neighbour, June Murphy, said: 'Harold is loved and respected by us all.

'I am honoured to know this guy. He has my greatest respect.'

Harold smiled as his neighbours burst into a rowdy rendition of Happy Birthday To You.

Those who lived on the street stayed at a distance from Harold as they wished him well on his 101st birthday.

At the end of the classic four-liner birthday song the crowd cheered and Harold gave them all a round of applause.

An elderly lady and another woman handed Harold his birthday cards and he wiped a tear from his eye, prompting a lighthearted chuckle from those surrounding him.

Another neighbour shouted 'happy birthday', to which he replied 'thankyou'.

One woman can be heard in the background saying: 'Ahh bless him'.
