The family of former children's laureate Michael Rosen have revealed the popular poet is still 'very poorly' in hospital.

The author was admitted last month and fans have been kept updated on his condition by his children via his own Twitter account. It is not clear whether his illness is related to coronavirus.

Forced to correct an 'untrue' tweet by another account that said Rosen, 73, was on the mend, his wife Emma took to his official account, @MichaelRosenYes, to say that her husband was still 'very poorly' in hospital.

She wrote: 'Thanks v much for all the love. I'm not updating regularly because when someone is very poorly things can change daily & details of Michael's ongoing care from fantastic staff are private.'

The poet's wife then asked fans to 'please be patient', saying 'no news is good news.'

Rosen, 73, is known for works including We're Going On A Bear Hunt, Little Rabbit Foo Foo and Chocolate Cake, and was children's laureate between 2007 and 2009.

In response to a now-deleted tweet by @WorkPsychol which suggested Rosen had left hospital, Emma wrote: 'This post is untrue and I have invited @WorkPsychol to remove it. Michael remains very poorly in hospital.'

The person behind the Twitter account later tweeted they had made a mistake in thinking that the news that Rosen had left intensive care meant he had also left hospital.

Earlier this month on April 7th, a tweet on the author's account said he was stable with signs of improvement, but warned that the road to recovery was a 'long, hard process'.

On April 5th, his family said: 'Michael continues to receive excellent care from great NHS.

'He is still poorly but has remained stable this week with some positive signs of improvement.

'It's a long, hard process for Michael but he knows he has ALL our love & support.'

In an update today, they added: ' I know people are anxious for news of Michael but I'm afraid I can't update every day. It is a very difficult time.

'Can I please ask you now to respect Michael's privacy & allow us as a family to concentrate all our love and energies on him.'

Before he was taken to hospital, the popular children's author had been charting his battle with illness to Twitter followers.
