A pair of thieves have been caught on CCTV stealing some hanging baskets from a grandmother's garden, described by a family member as her 'pride and joy'.

The despicable incident, which took place in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, shows two suspects with their faces covered up stealing two hanging baskets outside a house.

They were filmed as one jumped inside the gate to unhook the first basket, before tugging down the second basket and sprinting away from the scene, towards Harrison Street and Market Place.

The footage caught on camera was posted on Facebook by a family member, in order to identify the callous pair and to warn others to be extra cautious.

Shared hundreds of times, the social media post read: 'This might not be anything to some people but this is my nana's house.

'She has recently been poorly and in hospital and with this bloody lockdown has been stuck in on her own. Those who know her will know she likes to be out and is a pillar to the community.

'These may just be hanging baskets to some but to my nana they were her pride and joy, as is her garden.'

The crime is believed to have been reported to a street warden, with the incident taking place around 10pm on April 12, which was Easter Sunday.

One user on social media in particular didn't like the anxiety the incident would cause: 'It's the thought of them sneaking about isn't it round your property while asleep and vulnerable. Terrible.'

'What is wrong with people? Stealing from an old lady, where's the respect?' another added.

The pair are then filmed later on walking away, with the incident taking place on Easter Sunday

Another added: ''My side gate and back gate were open this morning which are both bolted so definitely moochers out at the moment.'
