Hilarious footage shows a rare albino alligator smiling a toothy grin while her keeper gives her a scrub at a California zoo. 

The scene was captured on video at The Reptile Zoo in Fountain Valley as keeper Juliette Brewer, who is the zoo owner's daughter, was grooming the animal.

The alligator, called Coconut, is one of around just 200 albinos in the world.

Juliette Brewer, who is the zoo owner's daughter,said: 'She's an albino so you can see she has all kinds of algae around her so what I do is give her a little bit of a bath and just scrub her'. The alligator, called Coconut, is one of around just 200 albinos in the world

Ms Brewer said: 'As you can see she's an albino so you can see she has all kinds of algae around her so what I do is give her a little bit of a bath and just scrub her.

'And look at her, she just loves it!' 

Ms Brewer smiles as well during her bathing of the alligator, and talks her Instagram followers through the whole process

The footage, posted by The Reptile Zoo on Instagram, has been liked more than 102,000 times.  

Instagram follower Lance Turner said: 'For an animal that lacks expression she sure does look happy'.

Meanwhile, fellow user Ashley Aguirre added: 'Her smile... so cute!'

Alligators can be born albino if they lack the pigment melanin, making them appear white in colour.

Because this makes them easy to spot they are usually eaten by predators at an early age, making albino alligators very rare.
