Two people have today been charged with murder following the death of a four-week-old baby.

Young Ollie Davis was found unresponsive in his cot at his home in Leicester on October 21, 2017.

Police launched an investigation following the death of the four-week-old at the property in Upper Temple Walk, Beaumont Leys.

The pair appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court and later Crown Court today. Both were granted conditional bail at the latter hearing.

The pair will face charges of murder of a victim under one on October 21, 2017 and causing or allowing the death of a child between October 9 and October 21, 2017.

They also face one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent between October 9 and October 18, 2017 and one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent between October 9 and October 21, 2017.

Police have also charged them with one count of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm between October 9 and October 21, 2017.

Davis, wearing a blue tracksuit top and white shirt, and Driver, wearing a blue and white dress, spoke only to confirm their identities in a 20-minute bail hearing at crown court today.

Judge Timothy Spence said: 'I will grant bail in this case. Because they have been charged with murder this is wholly exceptional case in this sense.

'The baby in this case died in October 2017 and these two have under investigation for four years. They have never presented as a bail risk.

'They have fully complied with the investigative and court process. I find there is no realistic or serious risk of offending likely to cause harm to another person.

'In the wholly exceptional circumstances it is not without a little nervousness and in a murder case going to grant bail and they will continue on bail.'

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: 'Two people have been charged with a murder following the death of a four-week-old baby in 2017.

'They were arrested on 27 October 2017. Since then, a complex investigation has been carried out.'
