Stars like Reese Witherspoon, Snoop Dogg, Adele, and even Dolly Parton all posted light-hearted remarks about the catastrophic worldwide outage - that also included sister site Instagram and messaging service WhatsApp. 

Considering Twitter is a rival to Facebook, the tech drama set the micro-blogging site ablaze with funny quips and memes - including many from celebrities.

Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt reposted a meme that showed himself with the tag 'Twitter' over his picture running far ahead of other runners who had 'Facebook,' 'Instagram' and 'WhatsApp' over their bodies. 

He captioned the post, 'Who did this.' 

Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block, who announced they are going on tour next year, used the outage as a joke and a promotional opportunity when he wrote, 'Guess the #Blockheads crashed @instagram and @Facebook again.' 

He then reposted the graphic for the upcoming tour.
