In a fan-shot video from the concert, Jay momentarily suspended his set to discuss Meek's history with the criminal justice system. "Got a young man by the name of Meek Mill, he caught a charge when he was like 19 — he's 30 now [and] has been on probation 11 years," he told the crowd. While explaining the details of Meek's recent sentence to the crowd, Hov referenced standout track "The Story of OJ."
"This 4:44 album is all about us moving forward, moving past it," he continued in his speech. "In order for us to move past the s**t we going through, we have to address it. Everyone has to be just as outraged, [we] can't look at it as a black and white issue, we have to look at it as a human issue."
Hov then wrapped up his lengthy speech by saying, "Black people in particular, we have to get our s**t together. We not second class to anybody, we're equal to everybody. We deserved everything that everybody else gets — stop selling yourself short."
